Impacting Choctaw Lake, Plumwood, Monroe Elementary, and Surrounding Communities

On January 9, 2007, Orleton Farms, LLC, of Maumee, Ohio, submitted a permit application for a dairy facility housing 5,428 cows to the Ohio Department of Agriculture's Livestock Environmental Permitting Program.  If approved to operate, this facility would be the largest dairy farm in the State of Ohio.

The scope of the environmental and safety impact is still largely unknown for these large factory farms.  The areas of much concern for us include:

Darby Creek Pollution and the protection of Endangered Species.

Run off concerns for the aquifers, wells and water in the surrounding land.

Emissions & smells will not be controlled.

         Financial Decline of our community.

         Impacts to the local economy.
